Where to look for Fossils at Hope?


(Fallen Shale Blocks) - 2007

Look for blocks of shale that have fallen from the outcrops in the stream bank. If there are none, blocks can be extracted from the in situ rock, but please do not over collect.

The shale blocks can be split easily with a geological or brick layer’s hammer. If you are lucky you will find small trilobite fossils. There are plenty of partial graptolites in the shale too, but these are poorly preserved.
